JOINT MOBILISATION

Muscles don't work in isolation. Healthy movement depends on both your muscles and your joints working well together, which is why joint mobilisation may form part of your treatment.

Joint mobilisation is a gentle, hands-on technique used to help restore movement, reduce stiffness and improve the way a joint functions. It involves slow, controlled movements applied within a joint's normal range of motion to encourage better mobility and improve the quality of movement.

At JP Bodywise, joint mobilisation isn't a standalone treatment. It's one of the many techniques that may be incorporated into your remedial massage treatment when your assessment indicates it's the right approach.

When might joint mobilisation help?

Joint mobilisation may be beneficial if you're experiencing:

  • Stiff or restricted joints

  • Reduced range of movement

  • Pain with certain movements

  • Tightness that hasn't improved with massage alone

  • Difficulty moving after injury or periods of inactivity

  • A feeling of being "locked up" through the neck, back, shoulders or hips

  • Movement restrictions affecting sport or everyday activities

How does joint mobilisation work?

Every remedial massage treatment begins with an assessment of your posture, movement and joint function.

If reduced joint mobility appears to be contributing to your symptoms, gentle mobilisation techniques may be used to help restore normal movement. These techniques stay within the joint's natural range of motion and are tailored to your individual needs and comfort.

Joint mobilisation is often combined with other remedial massage techniques such as deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, assisted stretching or Functional Release Cupping to achieve the best outcome.

Benefits of joint mobilisation

Joint mobilisation may help to:

  • Improve joint mobility

  • Increase range of motion

  • Reduce stiffness

  • Improve movement quality

  • Reduce discomfort during movement

  • Support injury rehabilitation

  • Improve everyday function

  • Help you move more comfortably and confidently
